Spec Miata
Spec Miata is the heart and soul of Schaut Speed Motorsports. When the team is not driving around the country for the OLOA, and there isn’t any snow on the ground, behind the wheel of a Miata is where you will likely find us on any given weekend.
Ben is running a 1992 based out of Michigan, while Dan is racing his ‘91 based out of Wisconsin.
Spec Miata is a class that has been designed to minimize the differences between the cars, increasing the importance of alignment / suspension set-up and driver skill to win the races. Any Miata from the first gen ‘90 1.6L cars up through the 2005 1.8L cars can be run in the class; as long as they have the specified suspension, follow the limited engine prep rules and have the proper wheels, tires and safety gear. It makes for a very exciting class where 20+ car files are on the SMALL side! This provides excitement and close racing throughout the field, with finishes that are as close as they can be!
This year, your author has decided its about time to hit the track with the National group. Little more skill, little more serious, but still a whole bunch of fun! And at the end of the year, a trip to the SCCA National Runoffs!
Races planned for Ben in 2010:
