Chump Car - revisited!

August 23rd, 2011

After significantly too much time, I finally have a solid update on the Chump Car!

After a bunch of little projects, the BMW is alive, and moving under its own power once again!  A few more small things to do on the drive part (some suspension ‘improvements’ and wiring) and that aspect is good to go.  I’ve installed the seat and pretty much finished stripping out the unnecessary stuff from inside the car.  This is what the car looked like a few weeks ago.

Ready for the cage!

But to be allowed on track, she still needs a cage.  So, a few weeks ago, I loaded Thelma up and took her over to my buddy Chris at Angry Sheep Motorsports to have the safety cage installed.

Sparse interior, and still probably more than we need...

And on top of that, it seems that I am either addicted to E30s, or was having too much separation anxiety, as these 2 cars followed me home over the weekend.   Looks like we have all the spare parts we are going to need!  (really, I just found that I enjoyed driving an E30 around, and this pair came together for a good deal.  Gold car is definitely chump worthy, similar condition as Thelma is with some rust and a few dents - on each body panel.  That one will be the spares car…  The red one is amazingly clean and will become my fun little daily driver)

The random things that follow you home...
