OLOA 2010 - Day1, Event 1 - Wet skid pad

April 30th, 2010

The first event of the 2010 Brock Yates’ One Lap of America has come and gone. With some strong winds drying a portion of the skid pad, we decided to try to take advantage and run wide to the dry pavement and hopefully pick up enough speed to make up for the larger circle.

We’ve made better choices. While the Race Technology DL1 data acquisition system indicated g-force in the range of 0.85 - 0.96 the path was too far out and the calculated G’s (based on the time it takes to drive around the circle) was an average of 0.790 g.

This put us in 26th overall and 3rd in class.

Notable performances included one of our class competitors, Bill and Tom T in the #20 Porsche Panamara, running a 0.860 good for 5th overall! Spectacular!

The reigning champ returning in the same Nissan GT-R broke the wet skid pad record. That they set last year. 0.962. In the wet! For comparison, most family sedans are good for 0.6 - 0.7 in the dry….

We are now on our way up to Road America, and to add a bit of fun to the start of the week, driving through some pretty decent rain… with some lighting on our right and a cool looking sunset to our left. welcome back, One Lap!

OLOA ‘10 - Friday - The Start of the 2010 One Lap

April 30th, 2010

The team is together once again.  Dan, Ben and Nick all arrived in South Bend safely and ready to go!!!!

The car has been transformed, as it is now cleverly disguised as a race car!  And as beautiful as ever!

Dan is taking the first turn behind the wheel and will be piloting the car around the wet (ish) skid pad here at The Tire Race.  From here we will take our first go at packing 3 peoples worth of stuff plus some tools and spares into the car and heading off on our first leg.  The goal tonight - and easy 4 hours up to Road America!

On a competition note, it looks like the 750iL dropped out, so we are down to a class of 4.  Most of the rest of the competitors are here.  Lots of puppies….  (the first timers).   Should be a fun and exciting year!

OLOA ‘10 - Car numbers and Competition!

April 28th, 2010

Earlier this week, Brock finished up the entry list and gave out the car numbers.  For all of you watching out there, Schaut Speed Racing will be piloting the #21 BMW M3 in the Luxury Sedan class.

While the final entry list wont be known until sometime on Friday (there always seems to be a few last minute changes and surprises!), we at least have a preliminary car count and direct competitor list.

So far there are 69 teams entered, 5 of which will be competing in the Luxury Sedan Class.  What, you ask, is our main competition driving?

1998 BMW M3

1998 BMW 750iL

2009 Cadillac CTS-V

2010 Porsche Panamera

Should be a fun field.  This is the second year for the Caddy.  I had a chance to drive one of those out at Waterford Hills Racway this past weekend.  Holy Cow do those things have some P-O-W-E-R!!!!!  I’ve heard a lot of good things about that Porsche - it may be strange to see a Porsche car with 4 doors, but I they look to be rockets too!  With what I learned last year driving the E90 M3, those other BMWs will be strong as wel!

Like I said, its going to be a fun one!
